Black Mirror is a British dystopian science fiction anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker. He and Annabel Jones are the show’s showrunners. It examines modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies.

Imagine if the things you love could always be with you, like your favorite Netflix TV shows streamed directly into your eyeballs. Terrifying – or a taste of what’s to come?

To promote Season 3 of satirical sci-fi series Black Mirror, Netflix tackled the problem of binge-watching head-on in an ad as creepy as the TV show it trailed. I was lucky enough to assist with some of the production of this campaign as I was on-boarding at Netflix. This was the first stunt launch I was a part of.

 

Translated into nine languages and reaching over 100 countries, the stunt stoked debate on the risks of binge watching and the impact of technology on our future, while generating buzz around Black Mirror.

We took a different approach in anticipation for season 5. This time, instead of innovating how we told stories as the show did with Bandersnatch, we got creative with how we marketed them and lifted social media content creators in the process. In anticipation for season 5 of the show, we partner with some of YouTube’s biggest influencers to create mini Black Mirror episodes. The videos feature takes on Black Mirror from the YouTube community’s own Rudy Mancuso who directed, scored, and starred in the episodes. I helped set up the idea, the team at Netflix carried the torch for the execution.
